Blanco County officials have long argued that their "hands are tied" when it comes to regulating and managing development activities. Their arguement has merit as the Texas Constitution does place limits on those powers and the courts have frequently been unhelpful to counties. However, this legislative session provides an opportunity for Blanco County to gain many of those powers our County Attorney, County Judge and Commissioners tell us they lack. Our Representative, Patrick Rose has introduced legislation that would extend many of those powers to Hill Country counties. His bill, HB 3447, is currently before the House Committee on County Affairs.
If you would like to see our county equipped with the power to help assure that growth is planned, managed, reasonable and sustainable, here are the legislators you should contact:
Chair: Rep. Wayne Smith
Vice Chair: Rep. Elliott Naishtat
Members: Rep. Valinda Bolton
Rep. Garnet Coleman
Rep. David Farabee
Rep. Patricia Harless
Rep. Joe Heflin
Rep. David Leibowitz
Rep. Todd Smith
You should also contact your County Commissioner and urge them to pass a resolution in support of this measure. Our County Commissioners are:
Precinct 1 Wood
Precinct 2 Sultemeier
Precinct 3 Mauck
Precinct 3 Granberg
