The B&B is an authentic 1860's log cabin, meticulously reconstructed in 1980, log by log, but with all the modern conveniences. A spacious bathroom and Central Air adds to the comfort of the cabin. The rocking chair on the the old-fashioned porch is perfect for relaxation or meditation.

Nestled on a wildlife preserve and overlooking the Blanco River Valley, this 113 acres of naturally wooded hills offers wildlife in abundance, springs and creeks, old German rock walls, and easy to difficult hiking.

Flowering Madrone treeThis ranch, part of the historic Payton Colony, boasts the largest stand of Madrone trees in the state of Texas. Madrones are quite finicky about where they will sprout and take hold, and no one seems to be able to explain why most of the madrone trees are on "this side of the fence." Try your luck - take a few berries home with you and see what kind of good fortune you have.

Payton Colony is called Freedman's Settlement on some of the old maps, and was established after the end of the Civil War. You will pass the old Mt. Horeb Baptist Church on your way to Madrone Springs Ranch Bed and Breakfast.

Madrone Springs was one of a series of five freshwater sources in the area, according to the Conquistador maps, and is still used by the local wildlife and cattle.

Sheridan, your host, will prepare a beautiful Continental Breakfast for you: fresh fruit, pastries, nuts, and crackers; and an assortment of beverages: Fair-Trade coffee, herbal teas, hot chocolate, and milk. There is a coffee maker and microwave in the kitchenette, and an ice chest is provided, so you can bring your own simple fare. Or find a restaurant in nearby Blanco, Dripping Springs, or Wimberley.

Sheridan can provide you with the details.

That is, if you're willing to leave this peaceful retreat that is known as Madrone Springs Ranch Bed and Breakfast.
