Don't Mess with Texas

The 8th annual Great American Cleanup- "Don't Mess With Texas" -" KBB Trashoff Day" is only one month away on April 14, 2007 from 8 a. m. to 12 p. m.

This will actually be our 10th Trash Off.

We had planned to hold fall events and held one in the fall of 2000 and again in 2001. Several people have suggested that we hold two a year. They may not realize how much work goes into holding one and the number of
volunteers that it takes.

Our KBB organization works together to coordinate the Trash Off Day and River Clean up plans with KAB and KTB and put this event on and we have been blessed with a director, Rebecca Howerton, who is so talented in
organizational skills.

This year will be Rebecca's fourth year to organize the event with KBB and the city and we appreciate all of her
hard work. She also works diligently the other 364 days a year to lead the enforcement efforts of the city nuisance and junk car ordinances.

You may have seen her many Saturday mornings working with individuals who are doing community service. They can be seen on the city easements picking up litter. She can tell you that one day a year will not clean
Blanco up.

"Thank you Rebecca for a job well done" and "Thank you to all of the KBB directors, members and volunteers who make this happen".

The lst annual River Clean up will be on March 14, with the Trash Off.

Thanks to Wayne and Martha Gosnell and Pamela and James Whitworth for volunteering to organize this project.
Our river is at the very center of the beauty of Blanco and we need to work hard to keep it clean, healthy and beautiful and a place that we can be proud of. It is a place that we all love and the "River Cleanup" will be the beginning of a campaign for education, public awareness and enforcement to keep Blanco's great asset clean and litter free.

Don't forget that March 31 is the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day.

It will be held at the Blanco County Sheriff's substation in Johnson City from 8:30 to 12:30. Keep Blanco Beautiful has adopted a barrel and will have several volunteers working with LCRA to make this a success.

If you need information on what hazardous waste is you will find posters and fliers at city hall and in several businesses in Blanco. Or click here for the poster as a PDF file. (You'll need a PDF reader to open it. Download Adobe Reader HERE for free.)

Every Tuesday is KBB Beautification day and we need volunteers to help with the spring cleanup and planting.
Call Judy Dorsett 830-833-5663 or Retta Martin 838-833-5720.

Call the team leaders to volunteer for one or all 3 events.

Remember - Sign up to volunteer by March 31, 2007 and your free t-shirt will be ready by April 14.
