The 9th annual Trash Off and 2nd annual Blanco River Cleanup was a big success. Six 30 yard roll off dumpsters were filled to the brims, a pile of metal and appliances as high as a 1 1/2 story building, and a very high pile of wood was all collected at the City Yard on Jones Road. Five companies and individual volunteers took flat bed trailers and two front end loaders up and down the city streets to help people get their unwanted items to the dump site.
This year used tires were brought by an individual and the city will pay the bill for recycling them this year. During the year tires should be taken to a location that recycles them. They will collect the state fee of $2.00 per tire. Tires are one of the items that is an environmental health hazard and should not be left in the yards or dumped in the
ditches. Unless they are under cover they fill with rain water and are a breeding place for mesquitos.
KBB wants to thank all of the youth groups that helped clean the river and the city easements. The boy scouts and high school ag department helped with the river and the middle school students helped on the city streets. I cannot brag on them enough.
I would like to thank Rebecca Howerton for all of the work during the year that she does to Keep Blanco Beautiful. She personally payed Charles Critchley two days a week for several months to keep our streets clean of litter. The city of Blanco has now hired Charles on those days. It has made a tremendous difference in our town and could be seen by the smaller amount of litter to be picked up on April 5th. Rebecca is our environmental liason with the city of Blanco to see that the ordinances and codes are enforced.
Thanks to all of the other volunteers with the city and KBB for helping to Make Blanco Beautiful and Keep Blanco Beautiful.
