Our Recycling Chairman and County Commission, Paul Granberg, was injured last Friday when he fell from a truck. Paul is in Scott and White and we wish him a speedy recovery. He will not be able to be at the Hazardous Household Waste Collection Day in Johnson City on Saturday. LCRA needs volunteers so if you want to volunteer to fill Paul's place please call 833-4720 for more information.
Paul does so much to help the county and the City of Blanco with our solid waste management and recycling programs. The recycling centers on Jones Road and behind the middle School are there because of Paul's
efforts and hard work. He has added to the centers each year with grants from Capcog. Paul is the recycling chairman for KBB.
We only have 19 days left until our "TRASH OFF" and "RIVER CLEANUP"
Volunteers for cleaning the city easements and the river need to sign up by March 31 to have their T-Shirt ready by April 14 (Anyone who signs up late will have to wait for their t-shirts). Call Retta Martin 833-4720 or Rebecca Howerton 833-4950 for information.
We are looking for a large turnout to help clean up the litter on the streets and the river.
The teams will take their bags to Jones Road to be weighed and the one who brings in the most weight will win a gift basket valued at $300.
Cigarette Litter
Keep America Beautiful has done field testing on the cigarette butt litter problem and have found that it can be reduced by 46% by implementing four specific strategies:
(1) enforce ant-litter laws
(2) install ash receptacles
(3) encourage the use of ashtrays
(4) change behavior through public education.
KBB will adopt a local "Cigarette Litter Prevention Program". It is a problem that we have recognized for a long time and hope that the city council will support enforcement of the ordinance.
"Trash-Off"
There will be free dumping for large household items from 8 am to 12 pm at the city yard on Jones Road.. If you are not physically able to move your items to the City Yard or if you would like to volunteer to move large items please call city hall at 833-4525.
Remember...
"DO NOT LITTER"
