Recycling Keeps Blanco Beautiful

I was asked to write an article on recycling but what should I write about was the question ? Each person on the planet makes choices each day to either recycle or not to recycle. Many small choices to recycle could have a big impact on the planet. Below are a few choices you can make to change our planet.

Baby Oil or Mineral Oil

Try choosing oils made from the seeds of fruits and nuts instead of from refined petroleum, Baby oil, or mineral oil, is a by-product of gasoline production. About one hundred million gallons of mineral oil are used each year in the United States-an amount equal to about 25% of the daily consumption of gas.

Paper or Plastic

While neither is an ideal choice-it is best to sack your groceries in reusable cloth or canvas bags. Grocery baggers usually fill paper bags with more items than they do plastic bags and paper bags can easily be reused. Paper bags have a better recycling ratio than plastic.

Paper Clips

Reuse your paper clips. Enough paper clips are produced to hand every person in the country at least three. If one out of every four workers reused their paper clips, it would save more than $1 million dollars.

Litter

Dispose of waste properly. Ninty-four percent of people identify litter as a major environmental problem. The biggest sources of litter are cigarette butts, bottles and cans(including tops and ring pulls), candy wrappers, and fast-food packaging. More than 2 billion pounds of cigarette butts are discarded worldwide-about 2 pounds for every person in China.

Phone Books

Please recycle phone books or better yet call to stop delivery and then use online telephone directory instead. Telephone books make up almost 10% of waste at dump sites.

The source for this article is " The Green Book" by Elizabeth Rogers and Thomas M. Kostigen with forwards by Cameron Diaz, William McDonough, Ellen DeGeneres, Robert Redford, Tim McGraw, Tyra Banks, Tiki Barber and many other stars who recycle and make a difference.

Oh, before I hear, "But the book is printed on paper.....Aren't we trying to conserve ? This book is printed on 100% postconsumer recycled paper instead of virgin fiber paper. Read the book and find out how much was saved by using recycled paper.
