Blanco, Texas : KBB : May 2008 : Congratulations to Winners of Blanco City Council Election

Congratulations to Winners of Blanco City Council Election

Congratulations to Rebecca Howerton, Tina Gourley and Ron Houston on their election to the Blanco City Council.
The representation of the citizens and the Blanco environmental issues is at the heart of Keep Blanco Beautiful. The enforcement of the federal, state and local laws, ordinances and codes that provide safety, health and welfare for the citizens of Blanco is the responsibly of the mayor and city council.

Rebecca has worked diligently, as our elected representative, to accept this responsibility since Keep Blanco Beautiful was formed in 1999. We look forward to Ron and Tina's support for better enforcement of these
laws, ordinances and codes.

Twice a year CAPOG provides environmental grants to help cities and towns provide the necessary services, such as recycling facilities and funds for an environmental code enforcement officer. Eight years ago KBB worked with Chief Sonier on a grant application for a code enforcement officer. We did not receive the grant that year.

Even though there has been approximately sixteen grant cycles since then the city has never applied again. With the support of council member Rebecca Howerton, there was an attempt in December and again this month to
request that the city apply again.

As a Realtor, I hear so many prospects choose not to buy their homes here because we have so much trash and so many substandard and dangerous structures. Healthy economic development will be hindered unless we
"Make Blanco Beautiful" and "Keep Blanco Beautiful". As citizens, realtors and business owners we are represented by our council members.

You have a right and should contact your council members with your requests or complaints and you should receive a very friendly welcome and reply from city hall.

Our "KBB 2008 Trash Off" was held on April 5. 105,000 lbs of metal, 500 tires and 52.5 tons of discarded items were collected. With compliance and enforcement of environmental laws 365 days a years we would not have
this happen one day out of the year. Tires should be turned in to a dealer and the $2.00 state fee paid at the time the tire is no longer usable.

Let's all work together with our representatives to Make and Keep Blanco Beautiful.
