Community Invited to Opening Masquerade Party
by Rebecca Doll, Director Uptown Blanco Art Center
Rebecca Doll welcomes all.
The entire community is invited to the Uptown Blanco Art Center for its grand opening Mardi Gras Masquerade Party. Many members of the artist community have eagerly waited to have local access to art supplies, continued instruction, and fellowship with art appreciation.
“Now is the time to celebrate”, said Renee Benson, of Uptown Blanco Arts and Entertainment! She added “We believe that Cultural Arts is necessary for the health of every community. Uptown Blanco is thrilled with the opening of the Art Center in Blanco and we are extremely excited to officially become one of the many components that make up the arts community in Blanco County.”
All are welcome to enter the courtyard at the corner of Fourth and Elm where the festivities set forth with live music from Zydeco Blanco, food, and celebration under the stars. Partygoers will make a mask with supplies provided by the center. Mardi Gras masks are to be adorned to the guests’ liking with feathers, beads, glitter, and ribbons. Awards will be given for unique masks made that night and children will be delighted with games and prizes.
Uptown Blanco Restaurant will provide a complementary buffet of traditional Mardi Gras fare; the menu consisting of gumbo, jambalaya, red beans, dirty rice, greens, cornbread, and more. The King Cake will come direct from New Orleans. The luckiest guests will find the baby or win a door prize!
The art supply store will also be open too with an extensive supply of fine art materials.
Guest may sign up for art instruction to begin Monday, February 11th. The course schedule will include drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, creative writing, art therapy and more; details will be available at the opening.
