Blanco Film Society Saturday Night at the Movies
The Blanco Film Society is Back!
We're taking off for the slow, hot month of August; we'll be back in September!
The society is committed to showing a wide range of films — old classics,
foreign movies, arthouse films, and documentaries. Among the movies that
have been presented are "To Kill A Mockingbird," "La Dolce Vita," "It
Happened One Night," and "Giant."
"Our main criterion is that the movies be something that would be
difficult to see otherwise in Blanco," says Jeannie Ralston, founder of the
society. "If it's a big blockbuster you can rent at the corner video store,
we're not going to be showing it."
Over its history, the Blanco Film Society has sponsored many special film events.
Three filmmakers have screened their films for members.
The Film Society was formerly afilliated with the BISD Learning Center; our non-profit status was under their "umbrella." We have now obtained our separate 501(c)(3) status, so that we can be self-governing.
As part of our transition, the Blanco Film Society has purchased a license for public performance to be donated to the Blanco Library. This will allow us to (legally) show movies each week; also, the library will be able to expand their children's programs to include educational films.
A membership fee of only $20 entitles your household to free admission to as many movies as you care to attend for the next year. Or if your not a "joiner," come anyway, and toss a dollar or two in the basket as a donation.
You'll have have an opportunity to join the Blanco Film Society at the library fundraiser, or you can mail your check or money order (payable to "Blanco Film Society") to:
Blanco Film Society
PO Box 489
Blanco TX 78606
Please take a few moments and fill out our membership application.
Then, join us at the Blanco Library (located at 11th and Main St) on Saturday evenings at 7:30. We'll have soft drinks, water, and snacks available for that movie theater experience - minus the sticky floor!
See you at the movies!
