Blanco Emergency Services

This is not a place where
you can get immediate help

Blanco Emergency Services

Availability of emergency services in Blanco, Texas has grown steadily in recent years.

Our South Blanco County EMS has recently managed to get a little bit of tax support, but it is still mostly volunteer-driven.

And yet, there is always a trained staff-person at the office, ready to head immediately to medical emergencies.

The Blanco City Police are also on call 24/7 for help with disturbances and such, or the occasional burglary or vandalism. And they have been known to give out a speeding ticket or two, so do what the sign says:

The 'Slow Down - Enjoy Our Town' Billboard

Slow down and enjoy our town.

The Blanco County Sheriff is the one to call (still 9-1-1) for emergency services outside the city of Blanco, in Blanco county. It may seem like an emergency when you have someone's bull on your doorstep, but please use the regular number at (830) 868-7104 when reporting stray livestock.

Utility Emergencies

If there is a power line down, or if you lose electrical power, call Pedernales Electric at 1-888-554-4732. And DON"T TOUCH ANYTHING.

PEC has a really quick response time, so just get yourself to a safe location and wait for the pros.

If you or someone in your household is on life support or some other life-sustaining device, please notify PEC headquarters at (830)868-7155. They no longer provide emergency generators to their customers, but they will tag your account as high priority (They do recommend getting your own backup electrical generator).

For telephone outage, Verizon is the local phone company for land lines; call them at 1-800-483-1000. I always wondered how you can call the phone company to let them know you can't call anyone. Guess you have to use someone else's phone ;-) .

If your telephone line is dead after a lightning strike, etc, make sure you check all your inside lines before you call. The Verizon repair crew is required to charge for a service call, even if they only throw a switch or plug in a line.

There have been occasional problems with the Blanco water mains (in town). If you see water coming from a hole in the pavement, please don't call Emergency Services (unless it's a gusher, of course), but DO call the Blanco City Hall at (830)833-4526. That's where the Water Department is headquartered.

Animal Emergencies

You may need emergency vet services if your pet or livestock is in a bad way. Call the Blanco Veterinary Clinic at (830)833-5140. They offer after-hours services, too.

If you come across a sick or injured wild animal, please call the Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation folks at (830)336-2725 before you do anything else. They can help you directly, or at least advise you of your best course-of-action.

It's Not a Popularity Contest, BUT...

The Blanco Volunteer Fire Department may be the most popular of all the Blanco emergency services. When you see a grass or brush fire heading toward your home and family, nothing looks so fine as a grimy, sweaty firefighter with a wet sack or a shovel in his hand.

Almost all of Blanco's emergency services are at least partly volunteer (as is most of our infrastructure). If you're so inclined, give some of these people a call and offer your help.
