It's a Good Old-Fashioned
Barn Raising

The Arnosky Family Farm is having a Barn Raising

Saturday, September 23, 2006 marks an historic event for Blanco County, Texas. I don't know for certain, but I'd say it's been a few decades since we had a barn raising.

Sure, barns go up all the time; in recent years, mostly steel buildings.

This occasion is REAL different.

Historic Fischer Hall in Fischer (Store), Texas 1) The structure will be modeled after the historic Fischer Hall - an old-style (2 story high) wooden barn with beams and rafters and everything!

2) It will be built by the community, just like the old days.

The new barn will be adjacent to the Arnosky's current farm market stand at the corner of Ranch Roads 165 and 2325 in Payton Colony (east of Blanco, west of Wimberley, south of Henley).

[There's another historic building just "around the corner" from the farm - the Mt Horeb Baptist Church - still having regular meetings.]

The Arnoskys are well-known for their flowers, their dancing, and the annual pot-lucks at their farm.

Now, they are creating a community experience and a dang nice barn, too!

UPDATE: Progress on the Arnosky Barn

The weather wasn't ideal, but lots of work got done. Here are a few pictures.

Stay tuned for more progress reports.

For planning purposes, please RSVP.

But if you can't RSVP, come anyway. Lots of hands are needed, skilled and un-skilled, from carpentry to serving iced tea.

And be sure to bring your best dish for the Pot Luck Celebration on Saturday night (food and beverages will be provided during the day).

See ya there!
